Filming of testimonies from family members of those killed and missing during the Defensive-Fatherland War has begun in Novi Grad.

Today in Novi Grad, a meeting was held between representatives of the Memorial Center of Republika Srpska, the Municipal Administration of Novi Grad, and representatives of associations of veterans from the Defensive-Fatherland War. The reason for this meeting is the start of the implementation of recording testimonies about the suffering in Novi Grad during the Defensive-Fatherland War.

The Mayor of the Municipality, Miroslav Drljača, stated that this undertaking, launched with the support of the Government and the President of Republika Srpska, is crucial for preserving our collective identity: “This project represents a decisive fight against oblivion through the methodology of recording personal testimonies ‘in the first person,’ thereby creating an authentic and lasting record of the tragedies that befell our people. The primary goal is the formation of a comprehensive digital archive that will serve as an indisputable historical source for future researchers and generations. Given that around 25,000 lives were laid down for the creation of Republika Srpska — equivalent to the size of an entire municipality — it is our permanent obligation to ensure that every victim receives their deserved place in this memorial of remembrance.”

Ljubomir Tešinić, representative of the Memorial Center of Republika Srpska, emphasized that the main goal of this project is the recording of audio-video testimonies about all categories of the victims: “Knowing our own past through these direct confessions is the only way for future generations to truly learn how to preserve peace and avoid the heavy tragedies that befell our people during the last century,” Tešinić stated.
