Witness information

First and Last Name: Milena Mlađenović

Date of Birth: 17.06.1935.

Pre-war place of residence: Sremska Mitrovica

Historical context:

Genocide against Serbs in the Independent State of Croatia (1941–1945) was an attempt by that state to completely destroy the Serb population within its territory (In short, genocide implies an attempt at the systematic, planned, and premeditated destruction of a racial, ethnic, religious, or national group).

In addition to this systemic crime, the intention to completely annihilate Jews and Roma was also implemented in the Independent State of Croatia during the Second World War. Events on the ground were interconnected within a brutal wartime context; therefore, the banality of the crimes and evil, as well as the suffering and agony of the victims, are difficult to fully explain. However, it can be stated with certainty that three genocides were perpetrated in the NDH.
