A Memorandum of Cooperation Signed with the Municipality of Nevesinje.

The Director of the Memorial Center of the Republic of Srpska, Denis Bojić, and the Mayor of the Municipality of Nevesinje, Milenko Avdalović, signed a Memorandum of Cooperation formalizing joint efforts to preserve the culture of remembrance and collect testimonies about the suffering of the Serbian people. The Memorandum implies the formation of an expert team that will work on recording testimonies of family members of killed and missing civilians and soldiers, as well as all those whose stories testify to the suffering during the Defensive-Patriotic War.

“Our task is to record, as soon as possible, the memories of the parents of killed and missing civilians and soldiers and to archive all of it in the Memorial Center of the Republic of Srpska,” emphasized the Director of the Memorial Center of the Republic of Srpska, Denis Bojić. He noted that Nevesinje is among the municipalities that made the greatest sacrifices during the war, which is why it deserves special attention in this project. “We call on all those who bear witness to Serbian suffering to find the courage to tell what must be told, so that our children may have a history recorded in the first person, rather than having others speak on our behalf.”

The Mayor of the Municipality of Nevesinje, Milenko Avdalović, added that the municipality, with the support of organizations stemming from the Defensive-Patriotic War, will help collect authentic audio and video materials about wartime suffering. The President of the Veterans’ Organization of Nevesinje, Siniša Šipovac, emphasized the importance of this project for preserving the truth about the victims and soldiers who laid down their lives for the Republic of Srpska. He recalled that during the war 476 soldiers of the Nevesinje Brigade and 212 soldiers of the Second Light Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Srpska were killed.

The signing of the Memorandum was also attended by Isidora Graorac, President of the Republic Organization of Families of Captured, Killed Soldiers and Missing Civilians, as well as representatives of the Memorial Center of the Republic of Srpska, the Veterans’ Organization of Nevesinje, and local associations.

For the purpose of recording testimonies, the Memorial Center of the Republic of Srpska will provide audio-visual equipment to the studio center in Nevesinje.
